Brenlo’s World

PC Gamer UK has a fun little article on D&D not only being the root of all evil, but also being the root of most modern video games.  (I made up the root of all evil part) I believe this is more true for MMO’s than any other games out there, unless they are actually D&D branded games.  Virtually all MMO’s I have played have elements reminiscent of a D&D system or two, no matter the genre. 

D&D promoted the idea of the game being driven by the players and subsequently created a whole new way of looking at PC and Video gaming.  While gamers at the time were content to simply advance to the next Pac Man maze or dodge more barrels, the creators wanted to bring some of the things they most enjoyed from the pen and paper game to the screens.  Fun concepts such as character development and meaningful story lines, not that Robotron did not have a meaningful storyline mind you, became the new paradigm. Heroes quotes.

I played some EQII last night with some friends.  We ventured into the Palace of the Awakened and had a decent time.  The highlight of the evening for me, and apparently for my friend, was that we finally made level 66 (no you do not get your gamer card back, the deal we made was that you had to reach 66 by the next podcast).  At this rate I figure I will be level 70 about Augustish.

You know, the kind of week that leads you to seriously consider a career change.  Where nothing seems to go right, and Friday can’t come soon enough.  A week where the gradually greying sky seems to reflect the foul mood you carry about you like a loosely woven shawl on an elderly womens shoulders, clutching to it for comfort and yet it offers none.

Yair Landau, the esteemed and most admired Vice Chairman of SPE and President of SPDE, announced during his keynote at DICE that an EverQuest movie is in the very early stages of development (as in being talked about)

“We’re working with one of my favorite producers right now on an idea for an EverQuest movie.”

If done well, a fantasy movie set in Norrath could be a great thing and I eagerly look forward to hearing more about the project.

We can only hope that a Bixiebopper will be included.
